FAQ

What does a system cost?
Natural Resources Canada puts installed rooftop solar in Ontario at $2.42 to $3.05 per watt before tax. The estimate above uses that range. The roof check gives you a written price for your house.
My roof is 15 years old. Is that a problem?
Maybe. Panels are on the roof for decades, so if the shingles need replacing in the next few years it's cheaper to do that first. We'll tell you at the roof check.
Do panels work in an Ontario winter?
Yes, at lower output. Panels make most of their power from spring to early fall, and the estimate above uses a full year's production, winter included.
What is net metering?
Ontario's net metering rules let you send extra power to the grid and get a bill credit at the same per-kWh rates you pay. Credits carry forward for up to 12 months, then expire, and are never paid out in cash. They don't cover fixed monthly charges. You have to apply to your utility before buying equipment, and we do that for you.
Can I get a rebate?
Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program pays $1,000 per kW of rooftop solar, up to $5,000 and no more than half the cost, with written pre-approval before you buy. A home that takes it can't sign a net metering agreement, now or later. We show you both options at the roof check.
How long does it take?
The install itself usually takes one or two days. The permit and the utility connection take longer, and we file both for you.
